Lofty Ambitions Makeover
This 100-year-old warehouse has terrific character but a surprisingly tiny E-shaped kitchen area has almost no storage, dated laminate countertops, and mauve-pink walls.
To create more space, I changed the layout into an L-shape. Grabbing a little space from the living room, I installed additional cabinets in line with the existing ones to provide a more efficient location for the dishwasher and a new stainless -steel sink. The L shape also extended both the floor space and the function. A repurposed cabinet now acts as an island eating, storage and work space. The old cabinets were retrofitted to match new Shaker-style cabinets.
Quartz countertops and stainless appliances add the industrial feel of the loft. A new glass-tile backsplash adds a sleek modern finish and a hint of texture. For the focal point of the space, I wanted an antique piece of furniture. I found an old stained cabinet with lots of storage. I added a thick slab of classic marble which extends far enough on one side for bar-stool seating. Changing the room color was must!! I covered the walls with the same color thats in the entrance hall and then chose crisp white cabinets to add contrast. Polished quartz countertops pick up the warm gray color on the condo walls.
